MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University's women's soccer team, coming off a
5-0 loss to St. Thomas University, will travel to Webber International University on Saturday for a 11 a.m. match at Warrior Turf Field.
Both the Lady Lions and Warriors have experienced a tough start to their 2020 seasons, each having lost three games. The Warriors' lone win this season came via forfeit against Trinity Baptist College on September 17th, but Webber International has lost three straight games since.
FMU did show improvement in their loss to St. Thomas University this past Wednesday, which could turn in their favor going into a game against an inconsistent Warriors team.
Lions goalie
Kacy Zimmerman was once against a busy keeper against St. Thomas and should be ready for another tough match on Saturday.
The Warriors come into the game against the Lady Lions having lost 5-0 to No. 4 ranked Southeastern University at home. The Warriors have gone
(9-0-1) in the 10 games between the two schools with the largest margin of victory resulting in an 8-1 win on October 15, 2015. The Warriors have also averaged 4.3 goals per game against the Lions.
One of the major things that Florida Memorial will need to improve upon in order to continue the trend of competing and staying in games is the ability to hold possession of the ball and get more shots on target. Against St. Thomas, the team gave up 21 shots (12 on target) with Zimmerman saving seven of them. The Lady Lions only had two shots and neither of the two on target.
It's an easy formula for increased success – more possession means more shots, more shots means more goals, more goals means more wins.
