Young Named MSC Sun-Division Offensive Player Of The Week

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – To the victors go the spoils.

And with Florida Memorial University winning its first football game since "rebirthing" its program this past Saturday, the spoils came in the form of freshman running back George Young being named the Mid-South Conference's Sun Division Offensive Player of the Week it was announced Monday afternoon.

Young earned the superlative honor after he set new personal and modern-era football program records for rushing yards in a single game with his 135-yard performance in the Lions' 41-17 win over Union College. The Miami, Florida native and Miami Southridge High School alum also ran for a pair of touchdowns while averaging 7.5 yards per carry.

He also becomes the second Florida Memorial football player to receive the Offensive Player of the Week honor, joining wide receiver Markell Lee – earned the honor for his performance in the Lions' week one game against Edward Waters University.

The 135 rushing yards broke Young's previous program modern-era record of 93 yards, which he set back in September against Faulkner University. It also surpassed his record for most total yards from scrimmage (rushing and receiving yards combined).

Young's big day was just one of many for Florida Memorial this past Saturday. The team set new modern-era program records for points scored in a single game, total offensive yards, total rushing yards, longest rush, and longest scoring rush – both coming on Amir Brown's 67-yard fourth-quarter touchdown run.

Having tasted victory, Young and the Lions will be out to capture that feeling again while also trying to earn its first win against a MSC-Sun Division opponent and first road win this coming Saturday (Oct. 30) when they travel to face Ave Maria University.
