MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University's women's soccer program could be primed to capture its first win of the 2021 season this week when travels to Lake Wales, Florida to take on a beset Warner University team Thursday evening at WU's Soccer Field for a 6 p.m. match.

The Lions (0-7, 0-3 The Sun Conference) enter Thursday match having had a few of days to mend – physically and mentally – from the consecutive conference losses they took this past week. Aside from the wonky final margins against Savannah College of Art & Design (0-10) and University of South Carolina-Beaufort (0-5), FMU struggled to generate much offensive thrust this past week – totaling just three shots in the games – as the team's roster was shortened due to mounting injuries.

Still, Florida Memorial first-year head coach Anna Maliszewska has been encouraged be her team's commitment to the process of building up the program.

Timing could be on Florida Memorial's side as it prepares to face the Royals. Warner University (2-5-1, 0-1) has lost three of its past four games – with the fourth game being a tie – including being handed a 2-1 loss by Florida College, which hadn't won a game this season until it upended WU.

Speedy freshman forward and FMU's leading goal-scorer this season, Amealia Smith is among the players that have been dealing with injuries and her status for Thursday's game is unknown, but Maliszewska hopes that Nathaly Valladares, Natalie Puntonet, and Mya Andrade could generate scoring opportunities to power the Lions to their first win of the season.
