MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Following its come-from-behind victory over Keiser University this past weekend, Florida Memorial University will be looking to keep its winning streak alive this week as it plays two games in two days as a participant in the 2021 Keiser University Holiday Classic beginning Tuesday.

FMU is one of four teams taking part in the pre-holiday tournament. The Lions will take on Voorhees College (S.C.) Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in the KU Student Life Center and return to West Palm Beach the following day for a Wednesday afternoon tilt against Brewton-Parker College (Ga.) that is set for a 1 p.m. tip-off.

The Lions ride into the middle of the week having earned their third straight victory after rallying back from a seven-point (66-59) deficit in the final three minutes of the game this past Saturday against Keiser. Senior Aliyah-Deen Ahmad and sophomore Chantel Barnett made big plays on both of the court as FMU held the Seahawks scoreless over the final 2:43 to manufacture the win.

This past Saturday's win not only showed that Florida Memorial (3-3) has resilience and grit, it kept the team near the top of the early Sun Conference standings as it improved their conference record to 3-0.

Senior guard Keaynna Tolbert led all scorers with 20 points while Ahmad finished with a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double and Barnett added 19 points and 7 boards.

Looking at its two games in the tournament, the Lions will be taking on two teams that they have had mixed results against historically.

Tuesday's opponent, Voorhees College, has been a source of easy wins for Florida Memorial. The Lions have topped the Tigers in all five of their previous meetings and hove won the past three by an average of 27 points. Voorhees (3-4) has been an up-and-down team up to this point in the season and the streaking Lions could pick up another big win Tuesday.

In Brewton-Parker, Florida Memorial will be trying to get the better of a solid program that defeated FMU in the only other previous meeting between the teams. The Barons (5-3) will take on Keiser University Tuesday and perhaps catching BPC on the backend of the back-to-back could help sway Wednesday game in the Lions' favor.
