MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – With its spot in the Sun Conference postseason tournament clinched – for the 15th consecutive season – Florida Memorial University's women's basketball team will be playing for seeding position through the remainder of the season, beginning Thursday when the Lady Lions travel to take on College of Coastal Georgia.

The game, which will be the opening game of typical women-men conference doubleheader, is set for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off in CCGA's Coffin Gymnasium and will be closed to visiting fans per Coastal Georgia's health and safety protocols. Fans will be able to view the game via the school's online live stream.

Florida Memorial (9-9, 9-8 The Sun Conference) currently sits in the fifth seed in the Sun Conference standings – a full game behind No. 4 Keiser University and a full game ahead of the six-seed Mariners. As the conference has expanded the number of teams it will take into the postseason tourney – from six to eight – the Lady Lions could potentially position themselves to possibly host an opening round game if they can climb into the top four.

FMU enters Thursday's game riding a two-game winning streak, after cruising past Warner University this past weekend, and well rested since it hasn't played since knocking off the Royals on February 6th. The injury bug took another bite down on the Lions recently, though, as junior guard Keaynna Tolbert missed the game against Warner with an upper extremity injury.

Without team and conference-leading scorer Tolbert – along with already-injured guards Jamari Tillman, Micah Cooper, and Destiny Marin – Florida Memorial saw freshman guard Chantel Barnett step up and take on the role of offensive stalwart. The 5-foot-7 forward scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed 7 rebounds against the Royals, setting the table for her to earn conference Player of the Week honors this past Monday.

The availability of Tolbert and Marin for Thursday's game remains unclear while Cooper and Tillman have already been ruled out for the game against Coastal Georgia.

Thursday will be the second meeting between the programs this season. Florida Memorial easily won the first matchup 77-59, in a game that saw Tolbert set her season-high for points in a game (35) while the Lions opened up as large as a 30-point lead in the second half.

Look for FMU head coach Gregrory Stanback to go back to the full-court pressure defense that he employed in the first meeting with the Mariners (9-9, 7-8), as it forced Coastal Georgia into 20 turnovers and while also holding it to just 30 percent shooting from the field.
