Chambers Wins 400M, Breaks Record In 200M; Lions Shine At Local Meet

MIRAMAR, Fla. – Florida Memorial University freshman sprinter Shemar Chambers had a stellar day at the South Florida Collegiate Challenge Meet at Miramar's Ansin Park as the Lions' men's and women's track and field teams had athletes with notable finishes.

Chambers won the 400-meter dash with a time of 46.92 – the second-fastest recorded 400-meter time in school history. The Manchester, Jamaican native also took second in the 200-meter dash and his time of 21.44 set a new Florida Memorial University record in the event.

The 200-meter record is the second school record that Chambers now owns as he was also a part of this year's 400-meter (4x100) relay team that shattered the previous school record at a meet earlier this season.

Also, Rodheim Austin and Leroy Francis finished right next to each other in the 400-meter dash clocking nearly identical times of 49.88 and 49.91 to take sixth and seventh respectively.

On the women's side, Shikyla Walcott was narrowly edged out of winning the 100-meter dash. Walcott took second with her time of 12.51 while the winner – unattached sprinter Amanda Kinloch – won the event with a time 12.34.

Quinzel Bazilio finished seventh in the 100-meter with a time of 13.02.

Bazilio and Walcott also finished fourth and fifth respectively in the 200-meter dash with times of 25.74 and 25.99. Monique Woods, Armani Seale, Monique Brown, Azaria Davis also placed in the 200-meter – 9th, 11th, 13th, and 16th respectively.

Florida Memorial's track and field teams will enjoy a bit of a break over the next week before it prepares to travel to Bradenton, Florida to participate in the Sun Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship Meet.
