MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – After a nearly month-long hiatus, Florida Memorial University will be back on the hardwood Thursday when it hosts Sun Conference foe Webber International University at 6 p.m. in the FMU Wellness Center.

About The Lions
  • FMU last played a game on December 14th – a non-counting exhibition against NCAA Division-II Barry University.
  • The Lions had three straight games either postponed or canceled due to health and safety.
  • Entering Thursday, Florida Memorial has won its past four regular season games – not accounting two exhibition games against NCAA opponents – including a 108-39 win over Johnson University (Fla.) on Dec. 10.
  • FMU's 5-0 record against Sun Conference opponents up to this point in the season is its best record over a five-conference-game stretch in the past five seasons.
  • Even without playing over past handful of weeks, Florida Memorial sits in the No. 2 spot in the Sun Conference standings – behind Southeastern University and ahead of Webber International.
  • Also, the Lions' 8-4 overall mark is the best record the team has carried into the second half (at the beginning of the calendar year) of the season in the past five seasons under head coach Gregory Stanback.
  • Four different Florida Memorial players are currently averaging double-digit scoring totals: Keaynna Tolbert (10.9), Aliyah-Deen Ahmad (11.0), Natalia Leguizamon (12.0), and Chantel Barnett (14.5).
  • One of the benefits of the extended respite is that it gave FMU's roster a chance to heal up; guard Jamari Tillman (lower extremity), center Danielle Jackson (undisclosed), and center Da'Marreya Johnson (upper extremity) all missed extended time this season and could be available Thursday.

Scouting Webber International
  • Webber International enters Thursday's game as winners of its past three games.
  • The Warriors (12-4, 4-2), like the Lions, have four players averaging 10 points or more per game so far this season, led by graduate senior guard Deja King's 14.3 PPG.
  • WIU currently ranks No. 2 among TSC teams in both scoring offense (76.3 PPG) and scoring defense (63 PAPG).
  • Webber also leads the Sun Conference in fewest turnovers committed per game.
  • WIU head coach Grady Morrell has led the Warriors to five TSC Conference Tournament championship game appearances in his 11 seasons leading the program.

Series History
  • Florida Memorial trails the all-time series against Webber 6-11.
  • The Warriors have won the past five meetings between the programs.
  • Four of the past five meetings have all been decided by four points or less.
  • FMU's last victory against Webber International came on Nov. 21, 2019 in a 72-66 win in Babson Park, Florida.

Keys To Victory
  • The Lions have to avoid a slow or sluggish start that typically comes after a team has had an extended break away from live action.
  • Florida Memorial should look to avoid playing offense in slowed-down, half-court situations and instead look to speed up the tempo and get out in transition to create easier scoring opportunities.
