MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University will be looking to play the role of David to No. 2 Southeastern's Goliath as the Lions host the nationally-ranked conference foe Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in the FMU Wellness Center.

Tuesday's game is a standalone women's matchup as it is a makeup from the postponement of the originally scheduled January 6th meeting between the programs.

About The Lions (8-5, 5-1 TSC)
  • FMU enters the showdown having been handed its first Sun Conference loss of the season this past Thursday – a 78-64 defeat at the hands of Webber International University.
  • The Lions looked rusty in its lone game this past week, shooting 29.4 percent from the field and 11.8 percent from three-point range, after they had a nearly four-week hiatus from game action.
  • Senior guard Aliyah-Deen Ahmad was the only Florida Memorial player to produce at a decent clip against WIU, as she turned in team-highs in points (22) and rebounds (8) while being the only player that finished with a shooting percentage above 50 percent (8-for-14) who took more than two shots.
  • Florida Memorial's other top scorers on the season, Keaynna Tolbert, Natalia Leguizamon, and Chantel Barnett, combined to score just 11 points and shot a combined 2-of-21 from the field.
  • Lions head coach Gregory Stanback also saw his team lose the rebound battle 56 to 43 and score just seven points in the first quarter.
  • FMU did see the healthy return of guard Jamari Tillman, who missed nearly a full season over the span of the 2020-21 season through the first half of the 2021-22 season with a lower extremity injury. While Tillman did not record any points in her first game back, she did add depth to the Lions' backcourt rotation.

Scouting Southeastern (18-1, 7-0 TSC)
  • Ranked No. 2 in the latest National NAIA Women's Basketball poll, Southeastern is one of the best teams in the country.
  • The Fire lead the Sun Conference in almost every counting metric stat, including total points, scoring margin, three-point shooting, and turnover margin.
  • SEU's Angela Perry leads TSC in points per game, averaging 19.6 points per contest this season.
  • A balanced offense, Southeastern has seven players – aside from Perry – who average at least 8 points per game.
  • The Fire has won the Sun Conference regular season championship (best regular season conference record) six of the past seven years and has taken home the TSC Conference Tournament Championship in five of the past six seasons.
  • SEU head coach Tim Hays has compiled a record of 143-11 in his five seasons leading the program.

Series History
  • Florida Memorial trails the all-time series against SEU 19-3.
  • Southeastern has defeated FMU in 19 consecutive meetings.
  • The Lions' last victory over the Fire came on December 11, 2009 – a 56-32 win at home.

Keys To Victory
  • FMU cannot have unforced turnovers – specifically errant passes or live ball violations – that give Southeastern extra possessions.
