MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Having had more than a week to prepare, Florida Memorial University is confident heading into its weekend matchup with Thomas University, taking on the undefeated Night Hawks Saturday afternoon at St. Thomas University.

Like last week's games at neighboring STU, the Lions and Bobcats will each play the visiting team. St. Thomas is set to play Thomas at 12 p.m. and Florida Memorial will take on the Night Hawks at 2 p.m.

About The Lions (1-3, 0-3 TSC)
  • FMU was able to take a couple days to bask in its first flag football victory against Midland University (Neb.) from Feb. 18.
  • The Lions defeated MU 9-0, thanks to a Diamond Mays touchdown pass and a stout defensive performance – also recording the program's first shutout.
  • Athlete Ericka Johnson continued what is becoming an all-conference-consideration season, registering 4 flag pulls, an interception on defense while being on the receiving end of Mays' TD pass on offense.
  • Head coach Jonathan Alvarez has seen growth in his team even as it battles through a couple of early bites from the injury bug.
  • Mays' status for the weekend is unclear, as the freshman is also a member of Florida Memorial's women's basketball team – which will be playing in the Sun Conference Championship Tournament semifinals Friday and potentially in the championship game on Saturday.

Scouting Thomas (2-0, 1-0 TSC)
  • Thomas University is playing its first flag football season in 2022.
  • The Night Hawks have begun the season with a pair of victories – opening the year and its program with a 19-13 win over Keiser University followed by a 57-0 rout of Xavier University of Louisiana.
  • TU has already built an athletic roster; a three-pronged offensive attack of quarterback Kianna Acol, running back Janae Scott, and receiver Kiera Knight.
  • Thomas University head coach Chelsea Parmer is one of the few female head flag football coaches in the country.

Series History
  • Saturday's game will be the first meeting between the programs.

Keys To Victory
  • If Mays is unavailable, the ball will likely be in the hands of freshman quarterback Amia Badgett and she will need to prove she can be a caretaker of the Lions' offense.
