MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University will be looking to pick up its first conference win of the season this weekend when it travels less than mile eastward to take on rival St. Thomas University Saturday at 12 p.m. on STU's Turf Field.

About The Lions (1-4, 0-4 SUN)
  • FMU dropped its fourth conference game of the season this past weekend with a 27-18 loss to Thomas University (Ga.).
  • Lions head coach Jonathan Alvarez had to shuffle his team's lineup because quarterback Diamond Mays was unavailable as she's also a member of Florida Memorial's women's basketball program – which was playing in the conference postseason tournament this past weekend.
  • Without Mays, Alvarez turned the offense over to athlete Thaymiluz Santos – who ended up throwing a pair of touchdowns and two interceptions.
  • Freshman wide receiver/defensive back Ericka Johnson continued to add to her case for being an all-conference selection at season's end by totaling a team-high 3 receptions for 56 yards.

Scouting St. Thomas (3-1, 2-1 SUN)
  • St. Thomas enters the weekend on a two-game winning streak following its 7-6 overtime win over Thomas University.
  • STU junior quarterback Holly Neher threw three touchdown passes against Night Hawks and leads the team in total passing yards this season.
  • Bobcats head coach Erick Burzanko is in his first season leading St. Thomas' flag football program. He also serves as the tight ends coach on STU's football team.

Series History
  • Florida Memorial trails the all-time series against the Bobcats 0-2.
  • While Saturday's game will technically be the third flag football meeting between the programs, it will be the second on-field game. The second meeting of the 2021 season was considered a forfeit by the Lions.

Keys To Victory
  • If Mays – and perhaps a couple other women's basketball players – is available and cleared to play, the Lions offense should be able to operate with more fluidity and have added depth.
  • Whether Mays is QB1 or not, Florida Memorial must cut down on its turnovers which puts its defense in tough positions – especially against a potent passing attack like St. Thomas'.
