Edgerson Posts Highest Finish For FMU TxF At NAIA National Meet

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Florida Memorial University had four student-athletes – two men and two women – qualify for and compete in the 2022 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Meet in Brookings, South Dakota this past weekend and saw sophomore Christian Edgerson the highest finish among the group of Lions with his sixth-place finish in the long jump.

Edgerson, won the Sun Conference individual long jump championship this past month, put on a solid performance at the national meet – clearing 7.37 meters on his longest jump on the day. Edgerson's leap at nationals also ranked No. 3 in FMU men's track and field history – surpassing his leap at the 2022 Sun Conference meet – behind the shared record of 7.66 meters set in both the 2011 and 2016 seasons.

Florida Memorial's other national qualifiers didn't find the same level success.

Rodheim Austin was 30th in 60-meter dash preliminaries with his time of 6.96 seconds.

On the women's side, neither of FMU's two national qualifiers were able to reach the finals in their respective events.

Senior sprinter Shikyla Walcott, the SUN Champion in the 60-meter dash, was 24th in 60-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 7.74 seconds and finished 20th in the 200-meter dash preliminaries at 25.21 seconds.

Junior Denai Wilson narrowly missed qualifying for the finals in the 200-meter dash, the event in which she won an individual conference championship, finishing 11th in the 200-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 24.88 seconds. Wilson also competed in the 60-meter dash prelims, finishing 32nd with a time of 7.84 seconds.
