Saminu Abdul-Rasheed earned a first place finish in the men's 100 meter dash at the 2023 Hurricane Alumni Invitational, posting a time of 10.04 seconds. He also picked up a second place finish in the men's 200 meter dash, posting a time of 20.50 seconds.
Abdul-Rasheed's time of 10.04 seconds is
the best in the entire nation in both the NAIA and the NCAA; a rare feat for an HBCU, let alone a school in the NAIA. This unprecedented event was recognized by the conference as the Ghanaian native was named this week's
SUN Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
His time of 20.50 seconds
is good for 20th in the entire nation, also among all NAIA and NCAA schools.
His mark of 10.04 seconds in the 100 meters marks the sixth fastest time in the entire world.
In the same meet, teammate
Ali Milline finished 15th in the 800 meter run, posting a time of 2:02.89 while fellow Lion
Antonio Thomas earned a 10th place finish in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.87, and also generated a 12th place finish in the 400 meter hurdles, posting a time of 57.04.
In the field events, Narrson Tullock finished in fifth place in the shot put, producing a mark of 15.29 meters, a personal record. With a mark of 10.63 meters, teammate
Alonzo Missick finished in 13 place in the same event.
Tulloch also earned a sixth place finish in the discus and a 10th place finish in the hammer.
The FMU men's 4x1 team, comprised of Thomas, Abdul-Rasheed,
Gregg Bain and
Jaylyn Session took fourth place with a time of 40.94 seconds.
