Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial struggled to keep up with Bryant & Stratton's offense, falling 18-9 at the Harry T. Moore Baseball Field.
The Bobcats kicked off scoring with a run in the top of the first to take the lead. FMU second baseman Ulises Rodriguez answered in the bottom of the first with a two-RBI that scored junior Ernie Farrell and outfielder Pheron Charlton, giving FMU a 2-1 lead.
Bryant & Stratton answered with a seven-run top of the second, re-taking the lead to a commanding 8-2 score. Farrell helped close the deficit in the bottom of the second, with a ground-out RBI that scored senior Kyle Morrison, followed by an Eduardo Perez sacrifice RBI that scored senior Luis Ruiz to close the lead to 8-4.
A scoreless third inning was followed by the Bobcats scoring four runs in the top of the fourth to extend their lead to 12-4. West Park native Raymond Rivera answered in the bottom of the fourth with a three-RBI that brought Utility player Nathan Harris, Farrell, and Ruiz around the diamond to make it a five-run game. BSC went on to score six straight runs, one in the top of the fifth and five in the top of the sixth, which ballooned their lead to 18-7 after six innings.
A Farrell double scored Harris in the bottom of the seventh, but after a scoreless eighth inning, the game was ended., handing FMU the 18-9 defeat to the Bobcats.
Left-handed pitcher Juan Anderson (0-1) was credited with the loss, allowing one hit, four runs, and three walks while striking out one Bobcat. Junior Andres Mendes came in relief, allowing four hits, four runs, three walks, and earning one strikeout. Tokyo native Ryudai Watanabe was next on the mound and in two innings allowed four hits, four runs, and three walks while striking out three Bobcats.
Junior Jerryk Caceras came next in line and in one inning allowed two hits, one run, and one walk while striking out one Bobcat. Sophomore Diego Coss came in relief, allowing four hits, five runs, and one walk. Junior Jacob Williams finished pitching duties for FMU, striking out three Bobcats in the final two innings.
The loss ends a five-game winning streak for Florida Memorial, dropping them to 7-5 on the year.
The Lions return to action Friday, March 8, where they'll host Harris-Stowe State in a four game series. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Harry T. Moore Baseball Field.
