MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | In one of the most exciting matches of the season, Florida Memorial University's volleyball team fell to Clark Atlanta University 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-23). Despite the sweep, the Lions stayed competitive throughout the match, dropping the final two sets by a pair of points each. The highlight came in the third set, where down 11-1, the Lions scored 17 of the next 19 points to take an 18-13 lead before the Panthers came back to take the win.
FMU generated 23 kills on the night, with freshman
L'Fe Roberts leading the charge with eight, but allowed 32 to the Panthers. Freshman
Amari Nunez led the team in aces with two, while teammates
Desiree Donald and
Julia Carneiro chipped in one apiece. Donald added four block in the contest while Nunez led the way in assists with 10. On the defensive end, freshman
Lauryn Brown led the way with seven digs for the Lions.
The loss marks the eighth straight for FMU, dropping them to 1-10 on the season.
The Lions return to action Saturday, September 14, where they'll travel to Sarasota, Fla. to take on New College of Florida for their first match as conference opponents. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
