SARASOTA, Fla. | For the first time in school history, Florida Memorial University and New College of Florida faced off in SUN Conference action. The first match went to the Banyans, who defeated FMU 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-21).
FMU produced 19 kills in the match, with freshman
L'Fe Roberts leading the team with eight, but gave up 40 to the Banyans. Freshman
Desiree Donald added four blocks for the Lions, while freshman
Amari Nunez put together 11 assists. On the defensive end, junior
Julia Carneiro led the charge with five digs.
The loss drops FMU to 1-11 on the year and 0-3 in conference play.
The Lions return to action Saturday, September 21, where they'll host Webber International University for the first conference duel of the season between the two teams. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the FMU Wellness Center.
