Box Score MIAMI, Fla. | For the first time in program history, Florida Memorial University defeated a top-25-ranked opponent, defeating No. 24 Southeastern 1-0 at Orange Bowl Field. With less than two minutes to go, midfielder Ariana Artavia found open space and beat the goalkeeper to score her first goal of the season and seal the historic win for FMU in their second conference match of the season. The win snaps a 12-match losing streak to the Fire, and the first against SEU since 2014.

Artavia led the team in shots with three and played the full 90 minutes. She helped control the pace on the field and stayed active in the midfield, creating chances and keeping pressure on the Fire.

Goalkeeper Isabella Rueda also had a strong game. playing all 90 minutes and racking up five saves and her fourth shutout of the season. Senior Daniela Canizales had a strong defensive showing, stopping plays and keeping pressure off the goal for the Lions. Senior Tiare Gomez Salo contributed on both offense and defense, taking two shots and helping move the ball up the field for the Lions.

The win advances FMU to 3-2-3 on the season, and 1-1 in conference play.

Florida Memorial University returns to action on Wednesday, October 8, as they'll host Warner in conference play. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. in Lake Wales, Fla.
