MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial University's track & field team will kick off it's 2026 season on Thursday, January 15, with the Jimmy Carnes Invitational. After a successful 2025 campaign, head coach Dwayne Miller gets set for his third year leading the program, and is looking to improve in 2026.
"It's a new season with higher expectations on both the men's and women's sides," said Miller. "On the men's side two sports stand out
David Buggs (Throws) and
Braylon Colgrove (sprints). Buggs, returns looking to set more personal best, school records and a host of points in the throwing events and Colgrove eyeing that sprint king crown in the conference."
National qualifier
Kalil Murphy (jumps) returns in triple and long jump along with teammate
Keith James (jumps) both looking to improve on last year's performances. Other additions
Isaiah Palmer (sprints) and
Kheron Duprat (mid distance). On the freshman side,
Mense Houndje and
Savion Barnes have been added for sprints.
"It's a new season with higher expectations on both the men's and women's sides. We want to continue to build on what we have coming back," said Miller."
On the women's side, national qualifiers
Shanise Ellis (sprints),
Amealia Smith (Jumps) and Yasmyne Williams (hurdles) are looking to add to their success. Returners
Taela Campbell (Throws) and
Kortney Purnell (Mid distance) will also contributors and expected to make a big impact. Transfer
Akira Hamilton (sprints) continues to show great promise and should be a strong addition to the program and freshman
Jamaya Cobb (sprints) should produce scoring potential in the conference."
The Jimmy Carnes Invitational will take place from Thursday, January 15 to Friday, January 16 in Gainesville, Fla.
