MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial University has named Charmaine Wilson as its new head women's basketball coach. Wilson joins FMU with extensive experience, from the NAIA level to NCAA Division I.
"I am truly thankful and grateful to President McCormick and AD Dorsey-Felton for the awesome opportunity to lead the women's basketball program," said Wilson. "I am humbled and excited to mold and shape our future leaders and build on the winning traditions."
"Coach Wilson brings a tremendous amount of experience, passion, and leadership to Florida Memorial University and our women's basketball program," said Chandra Dorsey-Felton, Director of Athletics at Florida Memorial University. "Her commitment to student-athlete development, competitive excellence, and building a championship culture aligns perfectly with the vision of our athletic department. Coach Wilson's appointment is also a historic moment for our institution, as she becomes the first female head coach to lead the women's basketball program in university history. We are excited about the future of our program under her leadership and the impact she will have on our student-athletes, campus community, and alumni."
Most recently, Coach Wilson served as the head women's basketball coach at Harris-Stowe State University, where in her first season she improved the program's record from the previous year and led the team to the American Midwest Conference Tournament after a six-year hiatus.
Prior to joining Harris-Stowe State, Wilson served as Special Assistant to the Athletic Director at Bethune-Cookman University. Working under Reggie Theus, she gained experience on the administrative side at the NCAA Division I level. Wilson brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in athletics.

During the 2017-18 season, she guided Edward Waters to a program-best 25-6 overall record, highlighted by a modern-era program record 14-game winning streak, including the program's first appearance in the GCAC Championship Game.
The Lady Tigers repeated their GCAC Championship Game appearance in the 2018-19 season on their home floor at the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports & Music Complex and again during the 2020-21 campaign.
Wilson led Edward Waters to the program's first Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Co-Regular Season Championship in 2020-21 and was also selected as the 2020-21 GCAC Women's Basketball Coach of the Year.
She came to Edward Waters after spending seven seasons as an assistant coach at Bethune-Cookman University.
While at BCU, she was instrumental in rebuilding the Wildcats basketball program, which saw vast improvement during each of her seasons in Daytona Beach. In her role as the first assistant under Vanessa Blair-Lewis (now head coach at George Mason), Wilson assisted in recruiting student-athletes.
Prior to her tenure at BCU, Wilson spent three seasons at Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina. She was an assistant coach with the Lady Yellow Jackets from 1999-2001, and in 2001 she was named head coach of the women's basketball program at Allen.
