Lions use 30-4 run to dismantle Fort Lauderdale 98-46 in season opener

FMU forward Jasmine Worthy finished a perfect 8-of-8 from the field.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial used a 30-4 run in the third quarter to eliminate Fort Laurderdale 98-46 in the season opener at the FMU Wellness Center.

"I'm happy for the win, but we have a lot of things to clean up before our next game," said first year head coach Rodd Woods.

Senior Jasmine Worthy produced a game-high 18 points and shot a perfect 8-of-8 from the field while former first-team All-SUN selection Chantel Barnett added 15 points and scored her 1,000th point in a Lion uniform as she finished 7-of-8 from the charity stripe. Barnett also filled the stat sheet on her historic night with five boards, five steals and four assists for Florida Memorial.

A total of five Lions scored in double figures, including Philly natives Quameerah Peterson-Gray and Nyah Johnson, who finished with 12 and 10 points respectively. Fellow Lion Dasiah Thornton chipped in with 11 points in the lopsided victory.

FMU returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 2 as they face Loyola (New Orleans) in Montgomery, Ala.
