WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. | Game one of the Keiser New Year's Classic went to Florida Memorial as the Lions took a commanding 91-67 victory over Fort Lauderdale. After dominating the first half 54-34, the Lions never looked back, outscoring the Eagles 37-33 in the second half to complete the season sweep.
Guards
Dasiah Thornton and
Chantel Barnett tied a game-high with 17 points each, with Thornton going 7-of-14 from the field and Barnett going 4-of-7 from downtown.
Forward
Diamond Mays followed suit with 15 points, going 7-of-11 from the field along with eight rebounds, while senior
Nyah Johnson chipped in with 12 points for FMU.
The win marks the second straight victory for FMU, improving their record to 7-4 on the year. It's also the third time this season FMU has scored more than 90 points.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, December 30, where they'll take on Xavier University of Louisiana in game two of the Keiser New Year's Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in West Palm Beach, Fla.
