MIAMI, Fla. | The Sun Conference announced its award winners for the 2022-23 women's basketball season on Friday.
Florida Memorial's
Tianna Ayulo was named the Sun Conference Player of the Year. In her first year with the Lions, Ayulo has averaged 21.5 points per game (No. 1 in the conference), shooting 55.2 percent from the floor (No. 2 in the conference). Ayulo scored double digit points in all 19 games in which she played, including 13 games of 20+ points, and is currently ninth in the NAIA in points per game. With 54 steals and a 2.8 average, the senior leads the conference in steals per game.

Warner's Emani Theodule was named the Sun Conference Freshman of the Year. Working her way into the starting line-up midway through the season, Theodule scored 35 points, including eight three-pointers, in her first game as a starter. She averaged 11.4 points, 42 percent from the field, 39 percent from the three-point line, and 2.5 rebounds per game. As a lockdown defender, Theodule helped lead Warner to a tie in most overall wins in program history, a feat that had not occurred for 20 years, and a tie for most conference wins in the last 11 years.
Florida Memorial's
Gregory Stanback was named the Sun Conference Coach of the Year. In his fourth season at the helm, Stanback led the Lions to a 22-5 overall record, 15-1 in conference play for the No. 1 spot in the SUN going into tournament action. Over the past four seasons under Stanback, the Lions have steadily increased the number of wins to move up in the conference standings.
"I'm thankful to God and humbled to be honored in this way," said Stanback. "This could not have happened without my players and coaching staff, so I say thank you to them."
Southeastern's Josselin Geer was named the Sun Conference Champion of Character. Geer is the Fire's emotional and vocal team leader. The Graduate Student from Winter Haven, Fla., is very involved with on and off-campus service and works as a peer counselor on campus.
