FMU drops round two of Battle of Miami Gardens

Lions suffer their eighth conference loss of the season.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial endured another heartbreaking loss to the St. Thomas Bobcats in round two of the Battle of Miami Gardens 61-49. The Lions struggled to find momentum throughout the contest, failing to outscore their crosstown rival in any quarter.

The Lions were led by guard Dasiah Thornton, who finished with 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Junior Cor'Niya Johnson followed suit with 11 points, going 7-of-9 from the field along with five rebounds while freshman Kaela Rainey chipped in 10 points for FMU.

The loss marks the third straight for Florida Memorial, dropping them to 9-13 on the year and 1-8 in conference play.

The Lions return to action on Saturday, February 10, where they'll travel to Coastal Georgia to take on the Mariners. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Brunswick, Ga.
