MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial has announced the 2024 football schedule, and it is sure to be another historic season under third-year head coach Bobby Rome. Last year the Lions finished 6-4 overall, a modern day program best.
"This is an exciting schedule," said Rome. "Being able to add NCAA teams like Clark Atlanta in the Florida-Georgia Classic will be a real treat for our fans. We are ready to face tougher competition, and I feel we have a much better schedule from top to bottom this year, including the NAIA national champs in Keiser. We play in two classics this year as we look forward to playing Florida HBCU Edward Waters in the Big Cat Classic, and bringing in
an independent team out from California to close out the regular season will be a good experience, too."
The Lions offense is primed to return to greatness as they finished last season ranked first in the conference in rushing offense and third in passing. Florida Memorial averaged nearly 500 yards of offense per game and produced a total of seven All-Conference honorees. The prolific FMU offense also led the NAIA in numerous statistical offensive categories.
The 2024 slate features seven home games and four road games, including two contests against NCAA Division II HBCUs.
The Lions open the 2024 campaign on September 7 at home against fellow Florida HBCU and NCAA DII foe Edward Waters University in the Big Cat Classic. Florida Memorial is a perfect 2-0 in the last two games against the Tigers.
FMU will then host NCAA DII opponent Clark Atlanta University on Sept. 14 before traveling to Tennessee to take on Cumberland University. FMU then returns home and begins SUN conference play in the Battle of Miami Gardens against crosstown rival St. Thomas on Sept. 28.
On Oct. 5, Florida Memorial travels to Lake Wales to face Warner before hosting Southeastern on Oct. 12. The Lions then travel to Babson Park, Fla. to take on Webber on Oct. 19 before returning home for its annual homecoming game against Ave Maria on Oct. 26.
The Lions host second-year program Thomas University in conference action on Nov. 4 before traveling to West Palm Beach, Fla. to face NAIA national champion Keiser on Nov. 9.
Florida Memorial returns home on Nov. 16 as they host Lincoln University in the regular season finale.
