Lions fall by 3 points in conference opener

Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial's conference opener ended in a heartbreaking loss to Warner by the score of 66-63. Despite trailing by nine with 4:26 left in the fourth quarter, FMU managed to cut the deficit to three points with nine seconds on the clock, but a missed 3-pointer at the buzzer sealed the result for the Lions.

Graduate student Dasiah Thornton finished with a game-high 22 points, going 4-of-10 from downtown along with 12 rebounds. Philly native Quameerah Peterson-Gray followed suit with 18 points, going 5-of-15 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe while Madison Sjogreen chipped in 10 points for the Lions.

The loss ends a three-game winning streak for Florida Memorial, dropping them to 8-5 on the year and 0-1 in conference play.

Florida Memorial returns to action Wednesday, January 10 where they'll travel to St. Thomas in the Battle of Miami Gardens. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
